My experience

My G road test took place on September 1st, 2021 at 4:02 PM.

That morning, I started driving (with my Dad) from Ottawa at around 9:30 AM. Arrived Pembroke Drive Test Center (DTC) before 11:30 AM. Drove around the DTC a little. Then, followed a G2 road test driver before following a G road test driver. Practiced the route 2-3 times on my own, with my Dad on the front passenger seat. Ate lunch (2 mini-slices of pizza, didn't have much of an appetite because of stress/adrenaline) in the car in front of the DTC. Drove to a nearby metro for a washroom break (WC at the DTC were shut down to the public due to COVID-19) & bought a 3x5 mix-and-match juice boxes for only $5. The cashier, a super friendly woman named Deborah, even wished me good luck on my driving test!! 🤩Returned to the DTC & practiced driving the route 2-3 more times. Drove to Tim Hortons for a last washroom break before the actual road test.

Metro Pembroke (5-minute drive from Pembroke DTC)

425 Pembroke St E

Pembroke, ON K8A 3L1

Tim Hortons (3-minute drive from Pembroke DTC)

100 Pembroke St E

Pembroke, ON K8A 8A3

Calmed myself down (my Dad prayed for me) and got back to the DTC before 3:20 PM. Registered myself at the DTC shortly after 3:35 PM. Waited in the car for the instructor to come (my Dad took some pictures of me). My instructor was a man (a gentle giant, I forget his name).

He asked for my:

- full name

- date of birth

- driver's license number

He told me that the driving directions I were to do won't be illegal (so, no tricks). He reminded me that I had to show head-movement (tip: at every intersection). He also told me that I could get my results at the end of the road test. Onto the road test I drove. Came back to the DTC. The instructor told me I had met all the requirements to pass the G road test! 🥳

But he also corrected my driving maneuvers:

- When taking a ramp to a high-speed road, I should first accelerate on the ramp lane to be as close to the speed limit (or oncoming vehicles).

- When getting off a highway, I should switch to the exit lane to let vehicles behind me continue on at their speed, without needing to brake for me.

I got out of my car and (with a big smile 😁) gave a thumbs-up 👍 to my Dad! He took some pictures of me in front of the DTC. I then drove from Pembroke DTC to Ottawa.

THE END
